Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per chevron reversed Azure and Gules (Brick Red) issuing from nombril point a representation of an atomic explosion Argent, overall nine rays issuing from a demi-wheel surmounting a stylized tank voided of the field Or.  Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed FIDE MOBILITATE in Brick Red letters.

Symbolism
Brick red and yellow are the colors used for Transportation and are placed below and supporting the blue for Infantry.  The stylized wheel and tank symbolize the two types of the organizations primary mission equipment.  The rays and atomic explosion allude to the atomic age, the era in which the unit was organized.  The motto translates to Faith, Reliability, Mobility.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 8 January 1958.
